In the hygiene sector, SCA holds a position in both the branded sector and in the retailers’ brands’ sector. SCA’s brand portfolio comprises products like Velvet toilet tissue (no 3 in consumer tissue). Bodyform (no. 3 in feminine care), Plenty household towels, Cushelle toilet tissue, Tork tissue for the Away-From-Home market and Libero Up&Go baby diapers.

SCA’s TENA brand is the market leader in incontinence care.

SCA has got four tissue production plants in the UK.

Packaging

SCA became a major player in the transport packaging segment thought its acquisitions of British Reedpack and Rexam PLC. In 2008 SCA made a strategic decision to focus on specialized, value-added packaging and sold its conventional packaging business. The company now has 16 packaging plants in the UK and is a major player in the value-added segment.

SCA also sells Cushi Tush baby seats, Potty Innovations planters, LapRest and PolyPallet boxes by SCA Foam Products.

Forest Products

Forest Products covers four distinct business activities in the UK: SCA Graphic Paper (UK), SCA Timber Supply, the joint venture Aylesford Newsprint, and SCA Transforest.

SCA Graphic Paper sells LWC and SC magazine paper grades. The company has grown significantly in one of the world’s largest markets for magazine paper and is today SCA’s largest market for LWC.

SCA Timber supplies the British market with Nordic pine and Nordic spruce solid-wood products and has a well-established distribution system serving customers, ranging from timber merchants and DIY chains to furniture and joinery producers.

Aylesford Newsprint is jointly owned with the Mondi Group and it produces and markets high-quality newsprint for the British market from 100% recovered paper. It is the UK’s largest producer of recycled newsprint.

SCA Transforest has an interforest terminal in Tilbury, London supplying the entire UK market with paper from North America and Scandinavia.

History

In 1990 SCA became a European market leader in transport packaging through the acquisition of the British company Reedpack. This acquisition increased sales in the packaging business by 42%.

In 1996 SCA acquired the Prudhoe tissue mill from Kimberly-Clark and in 1998 it acquired Rexam PLC’s corrugated board business. In 1999 SCA acquired the British tissue producer AM Paper.

In 2003 SCA acquired building materials distributor BCL which improved its capacity to serve timber merchants and Do-It-Yourself stores.

In 2008 SCA sold its conventional corrugated packaging business to Spanish SAICA.
